Sarawak Government
True federalism means decentralization. Autonomy over health, education, and taxation isn’t a favor Kuala Lumpur is granting us; it is a right that was guaranteed to us. Sarawak is moving forward rapidly, and the federal government needs to realize that a stronger, self-sufficient Sarawak actually creates a more stable, successful nation overall.
From Episode 5: YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD THE WRONG THING ABOUT MA63 | SENATOR ROBERT LAU
Biography
Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew is a prominent Sarawakian politician, lawyer, and community leader from Sibu. He serves as a Senator in the Dewan Negara (the Senate of Malaysia) and holds a key leadership role as the Assistant Organizing Secretary for the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), a core component party of the state's ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Belonging to a prominent Sibu family with deep roots in Sarawakian public life and commerce, Robert Lau built a successful career in law and local governance before entering federal politics. He serves as the Chairman of the SUPP Sibu branch and has spent years advocating for local community development, municipal upgrades, and equitable political standing for Sarawak's urban centers.
Federally, Senator Lau is widely recognized as one of the state's most articulate defenders of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). He consistently campaigns for the complete restoration of Sarawak’s sovereign rights, regional wealth retention, and legal autonomy over its rich natural resources, frequently challenging federal policies or historical narratives that treat Sarawak as an ordinary state rather than an equal founding partner of Malaysia.
