Studio News: Thousands Join Historic Batang Lupar 1 Bridge Half Marathon to Celebrate Sarawak's New Landmark

BATANG LUPAR, SARAWAK – History was made as the newly completed Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, Malaysia's longest river-crossing bridge, hosted its first major public sporting event—the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge 21KM Half Marathon.

The marathon was organised to commemorate the opening of this iconic bridge, bringing together runners from all walks of life while promoting healthy living, community spirit, and active lifestyles among Sarawakians.

The event attracted an impressive turnout, with thousands of participants from across Sarawak and beyond. Youths, children, families, seasoned runners, and senior citizens all gathered before dawn to take part in this memorable occasion.

The race officially flagged off at 4:20 a.m., with participants running across the newly opened bridge under the early morning sky. By approximately 8:30 a.m., runners had completed the event, marking the end of a successful and energetic morning filled with determination, celebration, and togetherness.

Several distinguished political leaders and government representatives were present to officiate the event, celebrating not only the marathon but also another significant milestone in Sarawak's infrastructure development. The Batang Lupar 1 Bridge stands as a symbol of improved connectivity, economic growth, and progress for the people of Sarawak.

Beyond the race itself, the event highlighted the unity and vibrant community spirit that Sarawak is known for. Families gathered to cheer on participants, friends encouraged one another throughout the course, and the atmosphere reflected the pride of witnessing history in the making.
